Location:
Stockton, CA
Description:

Overall the truck is very aesthetically pleasing. It has a great presence. The stance is comfortable for daily driving and looks almost level with ever so slight forward tilt. The drive quality is very nice, the gas pedal is responsive and has the right amount of resistance. The brakes are soft and you feel confident it will stop when you want. The steering is also smooth and responsive. It tracks straight down the road with no unusual vibration to report. There is suspension travel for a smooth ride, but its not a stock height truck, therefore its more on the shorter travel sportier feel. The truck truly drives nice and is something I would feel good driving daily. I took it on the highway and had no problem keeping up with traffic and even passing cars. Exterior:Overall the truck is very clean and straight. Its basecoat metallic black (Mercedes-Benz color) with a flat clear and the quality shows. These flat paint jobs are more difficult than glossy in that you can not wet sand and buff out dirt or drips ect. This paint job is very professionally done as there is no dirt or drips that can be easily spotted. The truck shows no signs of major rust or dent repairs. Looking inside the 4 fenders there is no obvious welding or large dent. All the fenders including the front cab toe board are undercoated in black. The only repair I found to report is a few mig weld wires poking in the passenger rear cab corner, its common rust are for these. Seeing weld wire leads me to believe it was done properly, the inside corners are also undercoated therefore we cant report more than the fact that there was some repair done there.Hood fitment at cowl, these trucks never had a structural sheet metal fold at the back of the hood and therefore they are “flappy”. The hood sits almost on the cowl rubber at the driver side, however as it goes to the passenger side the gap gets bigger. Possibly a hood hinge miss adjustment. The bed must be brand new as every panel is as straight as can be. All the plug welds are perfect and there are no dents or signs of repair on either side of the panels. All rubber seals around windows are still soft with no signs of age. All the glass is like new, the windshield looks to be the light green tint while the sides and rear have been tinted with a very light tint. All the brightwork on the truck is like new. All exterior hardware is either stainless steel or painted. There are no signs of rust developing on the brightwork. Seems like everything was purchased new and has only seen a few days of sun and rain, but has been cleaned up to look like new again. The wood bed looks like it was also installed new with new polished stainless strips and hardware. Shine on the wood is not a high gloss, it could have been a personal choice to go with a low sheen or it could be the wood soaked up the gloss varnish and is now not as shiney. The bed takes the most abuse as water doesn’t typically run off it, the stainless strips could use a little elbow grease. Both doors and hood open and close as they should. These old trucks never operated like the cars, but I must say the doors work quite nicely. Both doors when completely closed sit just about 1 sheet metal thickness out. On this black truck its not obvious but if you run your hand over the gap you can feel it. The tailgate is not set up to open and close like factory. The old chains would mess up the paint really quickly so the previous owner put a nut and bolt (body color) on bed sides where chain was and is using chrome nut and bolt to holt the 2 sides of the tailgate to the bed sides.Interior:The dashboard is very clean with no signs of previous issues. The gauges look to be restored versions of the factory set. The needles are white, except the Temp and Gas have red needles, perhaps swapped out at some point. All the gauges work as they should. The glovebox is a new shallow plastic insert. There is a new electric wiper motor installed and working with the factory switch location. The a/c is under dash and it’s a direct fit to the bottom of the dash. The air blows very cold! The steering column seems to be a modern (1980s?) GM tilt with key on the column. The door panels and headliner are typical aftermarket repop of the factory cardboard with black face. The headliner has 1 dent at driver center and there is a gap at the top of both doors where headliner meets the windlace rubber. Its as if the new repop is a bit short. The doors have the nice chrome garnish moldings and the windshield garnish is painted silver. Both windows roll up and down manually like factory, not super easy but very solid feeling. The cowl vent works very nicely. This year should have had a crotch cooler at driver side but seems to have been deleted. The kick panels are bedliner metal. All interior sheetmetal that is “visible” is painted silver. There is a kenwood headunit under the seat cut into the seat base. Its not visible and seem to produce a decent sound. There are 2 6x9 in boxes and a subwoofer with amplifier tucked behind the bench seat, and a smaller speaker at the dash behind the center grill. The bench seat is a standard issue black vinyl with plenty of cushion and 3 lap belts.Brakes:The master cylinder is located under the drive floor (like factory) but it’s a new unit with booster. The pedal like all these early 50s vehicles requires you to lift your foot off the ground, this was “normal” but some find it annoying. It has front disc brakes from a GM and drum rear brakes. The emergency cables are cut and tucked into the frame, there is no emergency brake in the truck. All the brake lines look like they were installed new when the truck was rebuilt. There are no brake fluid leaks to report or wet wheels. Driving the truck the brakes work as good as any new car. The pedal is soft and the truck stops when you want it to. There are no noises either.Truck is Sold AS-IS! Clean title!
