Summary:
Used 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Brown
Location:
San Diego, CA
Description:

1967 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe The 1967 Camaro appeared on the scene and the General instantly became a big player in the pony car wars. The Camaro had gotten ahead of the curve and was now a leader in the style department because the car already looked like a car from the early 70s even though that era was still 4 years in the future in October 1966. I can recall the first time I saw a first-generation Camaro in the October 1966 Popular Science new car preview edition. The 1967 Camaro was the star attraction when it debuted in the fall of 1966 and it gave the General an instant classic in the pony car battle. For consignment, a "worked" first generation Camaro. Maintaining its original color combination, but now with a 350ci V8 with a 3-speed automatic transmission and upgraded for more power and efficiency. This car presents with an amateur restoration condition with new paint, new flooring, a new trunk floor and is a turn key driver. Now all ready to be taken to the next level, read on and let your Camaro dreams run wild. Exterior The newer versions of the Camaro are nice and all with their neoprene bumpers etc etc etc, however there is something about the simplicity of design with these earlier Camaro models. A thin grille, nice small bumper with actual chrome on it just below, and the exposed round headlights which are just not seen on cars of today. With a very well-done Madeira Maroon respray covering the straight steel panels which are minding their gaps very nicely, there are minor faults, however really unremarkable. Sans badging or any side trim for that matter gives an air of a "sleeper" ride, but the nicely restored bumpers and Cragar aluminum slot wheels wrapped with staggered width raised white letter Cooper Cobra radials say lets race, and ladies and gentlemen, we are ready to go. Oh, and lets rock and roll a little bit with a slightly raised rear suspension, and a super cool spoiler on the trunk lid. A blacked out tail panel for the rear along with the simple horizontal tail lights and another small bumper with guards below. No hidden headlights here, just pure Camaro...Light it UP! Interior A swing of the door, and we are met with near showroom door panels in black vinyl with shiny window cranks, door handles and some chrome delineation strips just for good measure. Were going in and plopping ourselves on the pristine black vinyl buckets, which grab you when you have a seat in them. Or grab your high school sweetheart and have some fun on the rear bench, which appears unused and original to this point, also in black vinyl. The angled dash front has the deeply embedded circular gauges and knobs, and in the center. We note temp and fan controls, and an aftermarket AM/FM/CD neatly mounted within this section of the dash. A trio of round black face gauges hang from the bottom, and in between the buckets a black console with the stock chrome T-handled shifter resides within reach of the driver. We note the shift pattern is for a 2-speed automatic car but rest assured there is a 3-speed automatic lurking behind the mill. Up high is a wrinkled and saggy headliner in black and down below black carpet is showing some slight fading and soiling. Dream ON! Drivetrain Our biggest changes have taken place here where the original inline 6 cylinder has been replaced with a circa 1969-1979 350ci V8, (according to our crack decoder on the engine casting number). It sits within the nicely restored engine bay and presents with the black painted block, polished and ribbed valve covers, and a Moroso chromed topped air cleaner cover. This mill ingests its air and fossils through an Edelbrock intake manifold and 4bbl. All this power is put through a 3-speed TH350 automatic transmission and back to a 10 bolt rear axle. Crank that BABY! Undercarriage No issues seen here, just straight unadulterated steel with no surface rust seen. New floor pans have been installed as has a new trunk pan and headers feed down from the mill and send spent fossils to the rear of the car via Turbo style mufflers. Drum brakes are on the along with leaf spring suspension rear keeps the rear end firmly planted, meanwhile more drum brakes with an independent front coil spring suspension braves those fast corners...Scrrrrrrreeetttch! Drive-Ability A good driver, quick starter, smooth shifter, and some good grabby brakes. We did note a rough idle that clears up once the engine gets some heat in it. The car rode smoothly, and the interior was spacious. Its great to be able to crank the windows down on a nice day and go for a spin so I can write about these fascinating cars! A generation 1 first year pony car, partially restored, with an upgraded engine and ready to be enjoyed as is or taken to the next level.
