Used 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Description:

ENGINE: 408 V8 (M code 351 Windsor stroked to 408 CID) 5 Speed ManualVEHICLE FEATURES OPTIONSAM/FM Radio, CD Player, Defrost, Front Disc Brakes, Heat, Power Steering, Vinyl InteriorThere's not much argument that the 1969 Mustang Mach 1 isn't one of the best-looking Mustangs of all time. So with this one, they took one real-deal Mach 1, stuffed it with a 408-inch stroker and a 5-speed, then went out to break some big block hearts. If you like your muscle fast AND nimble, this is an awesome choice. The bodywork is good and straight, and they were careful to include all the important details like the hood pins, Shaker hood scoop, front and rear spoilers, and, of course, the rear window slats that practically define the breed. Correct Mach 1 graphics along the flanks and on the tail will remind the unwary of what just hammered past, and aside from the wheels, this looks like any restored Mustang fastback. Even the chrome is nice and shiny. The interior sticks to the original specifications, including the knitted vinyl seat covers on the high-back buckets. A sporty red stripe always identifies the luxury Mach 1 package, and this one also has a center console and a thicker wood-rimmed wheel that feels right. Auxiliary gauges have been neatly installed down low on the console in a special housing that angles them towards the driver. And yes, you will note that the Hurst shifter shows five gears on the knob, not just four, so you know there's something special going on underneath (more on that in a moment). The fold-down back seat makes the Mustang a surprisingly practical piece of muscle, and the trunk is neatly outfitted with new mats that fit well.A freshly-built 408 cubic inch V8 is based on a 351 Windsor block, which was how this car originally left the factory. The stroker kit puts big block power inside a small block envelope, so weight and handling are vastly improved, but this sucker accelerates like a rocket sled. As part of the disguise, it looks quite stock, with Ford Blue paint on the block, Cobra valve covers, and the Shaker hood scoop up top doing that intimidation thing it does. It's fed by a Holley carb and long-tube headers with a raucous Flowmaster exhaust system give it a fantastic growl. A 5-speed gearbox with overdrive makes it a superlative highway cruiser without sacrificing acceleration, and the 3.70 gears in the 9-inch rear are happy to oblige. Vintage Torque Thrust wheels with 245/60/15 radials finish the look. Not quite a sleeper, but this Mustang delivers a lot more performance than you'd expect from a vintage pony, particularly a small block.
