1962 Ford Thunderbird ExteriorA wonderfully painted roof in white with the soaring Thunderbirdemblems on the B pillars tops this beauty. Deep Rangoon Red paintbathes the lower body with a deep end of the pool finish for thestraight panels, blingy chrome, good brite work, and correctbadging awaits its key being turned so it can stretch its legs onsome open highway. From its bullet nose to the thruster rear taillights straight steel with well minded gaps abound. Glass is allgood and fender skirts on back frame the standard Thunderbird wheelcovers with faux knockoff hubs which are wrapped in like new modernradial medium white banded rubber. Certainly, one of the coolestdesigns to fly out of Detroit, Michigan.InteriorA retro style wrap around dual eyebrow dash with red padded vinyl,is mixed with a wide curving horizontal ribbed aluminum panel, thatcontains all the round chromed instruments and essential knobs andcontrols. This curving also continues downward to the centerconsole, where the climate controls are located. This car isequipped with A/C, and it blows cold. The aluminum continues backand forms a cigarette station, and then turns to the red vinyl, andcreates a nice storage area and armrest. Red vinyl bolsters withwhite tuck and roll insert covered bucket seats flank the consoleand are in very good condition. A flip of the setbacks forward, onefinds a wonderful padded bench stretching from side to sidematching the buckets perfectly. We note the addition of lap beltsto keep everyone safe and secure. The headliner is also in goodcondition. On the doors more horizontal ribbed aluminum flankedabove and below with red padded vinyl and chromed power toggles forthe glass. The original radio resides within dash central and hasboth AM and FM capabilities.DrivetrainUnder the hood the original 390ci V8 showing like new with"THUNDERBIRD" emblazoned blue valve covers. On top is a single4-barrel carburetor that feeds the engine that resides under thenon original open element chrome air cleaner. Behind is a 3-speedCruise-O-Matic automatic transmission, which the consignor statesis the original. A 3.00:1 Ford 9-inch rear axle is installed fromthe factory. The engine bay is looking sporty and highly detailedright down to the FoMoCo orangish-red wiper washer bag. Snazzy!UndercarriageAll black metal with almost no surface rust can be seen on theparts underneath; all remaining solid. Unibody seam looks veryhealthy, as do the floor pans. Independent coil springs for thefront ride provide, and leaf springs for the back along with powerdrum brakes all around all good. Dual exhaust with Flowmastermufflers snakes its way rearward from the blue painted mill andappears in like new condition. Our consignor states that thebrakes, shocks and front suspension are all new.Drive-AbilityA turn of the key and it comes to life instantly. Nice smoothacceleration, and good bias free braking, along with some snappycornering and we have a winner. All functions were workingswimmingly.
