1982 Datsun 280ZXAlthough the old guard wont enjoy hearing it, Japanese cars arebecoming collectable. Were already seeing spikes in prices of carslike the Datsun 2000 roadster, the Toyota 2000GT, and the earlyMazda Cosmo, so theres no sense in fighting it. The Datsun/NissanZ-car now has a history thats nearly as old as some of our belovedAmerican iron such as the Camaro, Firebird, and Dodge Challenger.And for a generation that grew up in the 70s, the Nissan 280ZX wassomething we eagerly read about in the pages of our favorite carmagazines.The American iron muscle had plenty of power which is indisputable,but Datsun, (soon to be Nissan), with their Z series, had decentpower for their size, but has a one up on the Americans..handling!This was nowhere more evident in the class ranks of the SCCA, wherethe Zs were in the same class as the ponies. Down the straight itwas the Americans, however they were quickly caught in the curvesand out handled which made for interesting racing on allconfigurations of tracks. And now for consignment we give you this1982 version of the Datsun 280ZX with super low 26,953 originalmiles!...read on!ExteriorA super shiny thunder black paint job adorns this sports car fromJapan. A nicely curved front spoiler rotates around to meet thefront quarters which frame 14-inch Mangels wheels sporting shinychromed dish edges and 5 spokes of alloy wheels. In front deepinset headlights flank the long hood which from side view almostlooks like its been pinched to a point at the bumper. We see adual gold decal trim spear running the length of the car andhighlighting the center line. To keep that look going the glass istrimmed with stainless steel which has a wide vented trimming onthe b pillar just prior to the triangulated sloping rear sideglass. A long sloping rear top glass and hatchback forms anotherblunted point on the rear of the car and it gives it a look of the80s European supercars, in particular I see some Maseratiinspiration. On the back, some snappy orange over red tail lightswithin a black horizontal grid bezel, a black bumper top with somechrome on its bottom runs straight across the back roll pan. Moreshine for the exhaust tip which is a single exit on the passengersside just below that bumper. Gold badging, and that look makes thiscar much like a black and gold highlighted bottle of lightning.InteriorA swing of the door to leap inside to an inviting very goodcondition interior, reveals 2 leather tan colored covered bucketseats all original and in great condition. These chairs have beenprotectively covered with fuzzy gray sheepskins on the tops sincenew and are nicely fitted. Comfortably seated, one can reach out tothe factory brown steering wheel, gearshift and center consoleglovebox between the seats. We can gaze upon the clean originaldash which is all made up of tan molded textured plastic framing ablack sweep instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. The dashdisplay is peppered with some digital lights and warning readouts,which adds a techno look when turning the key. In the center is atrio of molded circles which have gauges embedded within and areaimed at the driver for easy glancing to see whats up. Also notedin dash center, are temp sliders and a panel just for the stereowhich includes an AM/FM/Cassette player and aluminum looking knobsand buttons. On the convenience side are power windows, remotecontrolled mirrors, cruise control, and intermittent wipers, allconveniences not often seen in an 80s sporty automobile. Goldcarpeting nice and clean covers all the floors, and in back a largestorage area under that large flat greenhouse gate glass. Theoriginal factory tan carpeted mats are stored here.DrivetrainFlipping the long, long hood forward reveals an original unrestoredvery clean and corrosion free engine bay. Shoehorned into thisspace is the L28E inline 2.8 Liter 6 cylinder engine withelectronic fuel injection that produces 145hp. Bolted on back is aT5 5-speed manual transmission that not only provides greatacceleration in lower gears, but great gas mileage in overdrive.This works with a 3.90 rear axle to smoke the tires.UndercarriageShades of some patina show here with little to no surface rust, andaluminum floor pan coverings for some aero slipperiness. A solidunibody frame, good mechanicals, and overall very clean low mileagecondition. All independent suspension is seen as well as power discbrakes on all 4 corners.
