Added to the BMW 8Series line-up in 1992, the 850 CSi became the top-performanceoffering for the Munich marques E31 generation.Powered by an enlarged version of the 850 Cis V-12 that was boredout to 5.6 litres, the high-spec model featured lighter pistons,forged crankshaft and a freer-flowing exhaust. The resultingproduct produced 375 horsepower and was capable of reaching 100km/h from a standstill in just 5.7 seconds. It also featured arevised suspension setup to harness the extra power, featuring alower stance and stiffer springs and dampers. The steering wasmodified with a quicker ratio, and reassuringly, the brakes wereuprated with floating ventilated discs. Even the wing mirrors wereresculpted to improve aerodynamics, alongside reshaped front andrear bumpers. Naturally, it was only offered with a manualsix-speed gearbox so as not to dilute the driving experience.
